Continuing their fine performances in the long jump this year, Kathryn Davis and Raynetta Gheen took first and second with leaps of 14’ 9V*n and 14’ 3 Vi”. A sweep in the shot put, the third event, moved the Lady Panthers in front of the pack., Donna Williams tossed a distance of 30’ TV* inches for first while Marie Davis threw 30*2” for second and Connie Compton 29* 2Vi” for third. Then in the discus Davis claimed another blue with a throw of 94’ 6Vi”. Kelly Bristol, who moved from the distance runner spot she held last year to become lead hurdler for Rappahannock in the 1984 season, captured third place with a time over the barriers of 18:48 seconds. Kathy Davis was third in the 100 dash in 13.73 seconds and then joined Shannon Watton, Ann Tupper and Raynetta Gheen for a Panther second in the 800 relay. Davis, Watton, Gheen and Bristol combined to finish first in the 4000 relay. “Their good concentration on hand-offs paid off with better speed,” coach Spieker reported.
