During his monthly cafeteria report, Estabrook said the school lunch account showed a total balance of (21,442.24. This includes $5,518.12 in reimbursement due from the state.
“We’re looking at the possibility of reducing the price next year if we can maintain this kind of balance,” Estabrook said during a later telephone interview. “It’s looking very healthy.”
Estabrook added that the account has such a healthy balance that some of the money might have to be returned to the state at the end of the year. “We can only carry a certain surplus,” he said, adding that state and federal guidelines governing school lunch programs that were adopted about six years ago now prohibit spending any of the money on cafeteria equipment.
