Dinner With Trimmings
As part of their annual fund drive, the Castleton firefighters will host a benefit dinner on Friday, April 27, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Castleton fire hall.
The menu features roast turkey and steamship round of beef with all the trimmings and assorted desserts. Cost is $3 for children, $6 for adults.
As an added attraction, the firemen will be giving away an array of prizes.
NAACP Branch Meeting
The Rappahannock NAACP Branch will meet on Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Washington. All members and interested persons are urged to attend.
Childbirth Classes
Attention expectant couples with June due dates, a new series of childbirth classes will begin on Wednesday, May 2 at the Washington Baptist Church at 7 p.m.
The seven lecture series teaches all about nutrition, breastfeeding, parenting, relaxation and lamaze breathing techniques, as well as the anatomy and physiology of labor and birth. The fee is $45 per couple. For more information call Rose Ann Sharp at 675-3887. V
“The Big ChiU" Shown
This weekends presentation at the Gay Street Theater in Washington will be “The Big Chill,” one of the 1984 Academy Award nominees. A well acted, witty and thoroughly entertaining serious comedy, the film focuses on a group of seven former college friends from the ’60s who gather for the funeral of the campus radical who brought them together. They’ve all fallen away from their causes to become the kind of people they used to despise and now find needed solace in each other.
“The Big Chill” will be shown on Friday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. There will be no Monday performance. Next week’s movie, “Educating Rita,” will be shown only once, Sunday at 7 p.m., due to the encore presentation of “Where I’m Cornin’ From,” scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5.
