$30,000 Property

Lee Bird put the proposed 12 percent increase in the school budget in terms of a dollar increase in local taxes. If the jump in school expenses is absorbed entirely through the real estate tax rate, it works out to a 13 cent rise in the levy, according to Bird. In dollars, that means a person owning property valued at $30,000 will pay $42 more in taxes; someone with property valued at $90,000 will pay an additional $126 and a taxpayer with $300,000 worth of property will owe $420 more.
