Luther Dudley

Luther Harris Dudley. 89. former president of Alexandria National Hank and a resident of Alexandria for more than 65 years, died Tuesday, June IS at Alexandria Hospital.

Mr. Dudley, who also served as chairman of the Alexandria Sanitation Authority during the 1960’s and 197l)’s and was a former member of the Alexandria Board of Equalization and Tax Assessment Review was born in Washington, Va. He began his banking career with the Rappahannock National Bank.

He served in the Army during World War I and moved to Alexandria in 1919 when be became cashier at Alexandria National Bank.

Over the next 50 years, Mr. Dud ley rose through the ranks to become president of the bank in 1958. He re tired about 1970.

In retirement, Mr. Dudley had been director emeritus of First American Bank of Virginia, a bank created by the merger of Alexandria National Bank with two other Northern Virginia banks.

Mr. Dudley was a member of Belle Haven Country Club, where he played golf daily until recently.

His wife, Katherine Waller Dudley, died in 1980.

Survivors include a son, Eastham Waller Dudley, who resides at 512 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
