Early Deadline At News
Due to the July Fourth holiday, the Rappahannock News' deadline for ads or news items will be at noon on Monday, July 1.
• Office Closings
The Rappahannock Department of Social Services will close at noon on Friday, June 28. The Social Services office will also be closed all day on July 4.
Family Guidance Services of Rappahannock will be closed for the Fourth. In emergencies, the staff may be reached by calling 675-3329.
• Keesey To Attend Meeting
On Thursday, June 27, Truman G. Keesey of Washington, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Aging, will attend the quarterly meeting of the committee in Staunton. The theme of the meeting will be employment.
• Warrenton 70001 Closes
The Warrenton office of 70001 will close on June 28 due to federal budget cuts. In the future, 70001 activities in the Warrenton area will be handled by Culpeper 70001. For information on job placement or GED assistance, prospective applicants should telephone 825-3988.
• Fund Raising Weekend
On July 20 and 21, the Sperryville Antique Market plans to open its doors and facilities (free of charge) to all Rappahannock County nonprofit and community organizations for a weekend of “unrestricted” fund raising, exhibits and/or demonstrations.

• Park’s Summer Activities
June 21 marked the start of the full schedule of summer activities in Shenandoah National Park. This schedule will remain in effect through August 31.
According to Park Naturalist Dennis Carter, visitors can choose from 68 ranger-conducted activities in the Park each week. The summer issue of “Shenandoah Overlook,” the Park newspaper, includes a detailed list of all Park programs and may be obtained at entrance stations or visitor centers. Dickey Ridge Visitor Center (Mile 4.6) and Byrd Visitor Center (Milepost 51) are open daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mathews Arm, Lewis Mountain and Loft Mountain Campgrounds are operating on a first-come, first-served basis. Big Meadows Campground is on the Ticketron reservation system. Camping fees are $7 per site, per night, $3.50 for holders of Golden Age and Golden Access Passports.
