Salvador bring home the message Dr. Richard Kobetz delivered to the Berryville-Clarke County Chamber of Commerce June 19.
“Criminals, Crusaders and Crazies,” said Kobetz, citing the title of a book used in his training courses. “We are their victims.”
Kobetz, who was one of the originators of the body guard or “personal protection specialist” profession, recently moved the headquaters of his business to Clarke County. Kobetz discussed the need for protecting business and government officials, and showed slides of some of the types of devices used by terrorists and assassins.
Kobetz also had some words of warning for the average citizen on personal protection.
“Common sense and awareness” are an individual’s most basic weapons in “target hardening,” Kobetz said. He pointed out that the best defense is to avoid becoming a target. Among the ABC’s of prevention he listed “Avoid trouble” by steering clear of areas where danger is likely to lurk; “Be Alert” and aware of what’s going on around you, down that dark street or those shadowy doorways and watch out for “Careless Talk” in public places such as vacation times, or cash flow in
