flict with spiritual duty, and that we should be careful in our behavior not to scandalize other (weaker) Christians. But that is a far different matter from thinking that anything we do or any law we keep can contribute at all to getting or keeping salvation. For those who asked “what about the law” Paul (always the Holy Spirit through Paul) said “All the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” And he reminds them that “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no > law.” These are all responsibilities of the Christian, but produced in a Christian’s life by the Holy. Spirit. They are his fruit.
Other specific responsibilities mentioned include avoidance of the works of the flesh (5:19-21), not trying to get ahead at others expense, helping (rather than condemning) anyone who falls into sin, and doing good to all people, “especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
