By order dated March 2, 1984, the Commission adopted rules governing the clarification and definition of the point of demarcation via a network interface device (“NID”) separating the telephone company-provided facilities from customer premises wiring These rules also addressed the installation and placement of NIDS for new simple one and two line installations in single or duplex residence or business structures and for simple one and two line installations in multi-story or multi-occupancy buildings, campuses, mall. etc.
The Commission is now considering additional rules which will govern simple one and two line NID installations in existing business and residences and installation of NIDS in all new multi-story, multioccupancy buildings, beginning construction after January I, 1986. The rules would govern the installation of NIDs for reasons other than the initial installation of telephone service by a network installerrepair person.

Anyone who wishes to be heard by the Commission on the subject of the rules must file an original and fifteen (15) copies of a request for hearing not later than August 29, 1985, with George W. Brvant. Jr., Clerk, Virginia State Corporation Commission. P.O. Box 2118, Richmond, Virginia 23216. and must refer to Case No. PUC830039. A hearing on the proposed rules will be granted only at the discretion of the Hearing Examiner. In the absence of a request for hearing, the Hearing Examiner may be expected to act on the proposed rules after considering all written comments.
