A Virginia Water Project Inc. $6,000 grant for electrical upgrading assistance to low-income home owners in the Sperryville Sewage System project a ea was received by the Rappahannock Water and Sewer Authority at its meeting on Aug. 1.
The WSA will administer the grant by using a basic income survey to choose up to 10 homeowners who qualify for assistance. An individual homeowner whose house needs electrical upgrading before a septic pump can be installed can receive a maximum of $600. Besides meeting the income requirements, owners have to be living in the home to qualify.
“The next step is for us to conduct surveys of all the households we think are potential households to receive the assistance - in this case, the income survey,” said Wayne Cilimberg, executive director of the RappahannockRapidan Planning Commission in Culpeper.
WSA Chairman Bob Dennis asked Cilimberg if the grant was limited to 10 households. “Do we have $6,000 to allocate, so that if we can figure out a way to give assistance to 12 or 14 families we could?” asked Dennis. Cilimberg replied that if more than 10 qualifying households were found, the Virginia Water Project would consider approving more funds.
