One thing about prophecy is that there is not usually any way to prove the correctness of an interpretation until it becomes history. This has made it relatively easy for Satan and those who are either knowingly or unknowingly used by him to mislead many.
Nevertheless, there are historical precedents which can help us. For example, the prophecies which have been fulfilled and are now history, were generally fulfilled literally. The prophet as of Christ’s first coming were fulfilled literally, and therefore we expect those of his second coming to be fulfilled the same way. Likewise we notice that people who have set dates for biblical prophecies to be fulfilled have always been wrong. Therefore we expect such people to continue to be wrong. Another thing that has always been wrong and will continue to be is the minimizing of the person or work of Christ, saying that he is something less than God, or that his work will somehow be completed by someone else.
