I think it is important for anyone else who was interested in his letter to know that Mr. Holley is not primarily a critic of rebellion, but a promoter of a peculiar religious cult. There are hints of this in his letter to you, in his reference to the “feminine Spirit of God” and the statement that man shall soon “learn... (by 1995).”
In his letters to me and in some printed material he included, he “rode roughshod” over the Bible, picking verses out of context to support his theory that we are about to receive a new visitation from heaven in the person of a black female member of the Godhead who will essentially pick up where Jesus left off.
I took the position that he was sincere, but sincerely wrong. I took the time to write two personal answers to him in which I pointed out the impossibility in several places of his interpretation fitting the original language of the New Testament. I also pointed out some errors of fact in his understanding of the writing of the New Testament and subsequent translation - errors which he used to support some of his contentions.
His response in additional letters to me has been either to ignore the evidence I have sent him or to indicate that the Bible is “wrong” in those places.
I refrained from dealing with this matter in our regular weekly column, both because I did not wish to embarrass Peter and because I did not wish to give him any undeserved publicity. However, I feel that his public letter to you has left me no choice but to write this letter as a warning to those who might be in a position to be misled.
