Some 4.9 percent of the Rappahannock County civilian work force was unemployed, according to statistics compiled through June by the Virginia Employment Commission.
The labor force here totals 2,679; 2,547 were employed.
In the Culpeper area, which includes Culpeper, Madison, Orange, Fauquier and Rappahannock counties, Orange County posted the highest unemployment rate, at 6.9 percent. Fauquier County was lowest at 3.5 percent.
The unemployment rate in Virginia was 5.4 percent, while the national rate reached 7.4 percent through the period ending in June.
The VEC suggested the unemployment figures may have been inflated due to the number of college graduates who joined the work force this spring.
