Paul McFarlane, former news editor at the Shenandoah Valley - Herald in Woodstock, was this week named editor of the Rappahannock News.
McFarlane, 28, is a 1979 graduate of James Madison University and has been with the Valley-Herild for the last six years.
During that time, the ValleyHerald twice won the Virginia Press Association Sweepstakes award among the state’s large weekly newspapers. The sweepstakes award is presented to the newspaper which is judged to be the best among its competitors.
McFarlane replaces Jon Klaverkamp who has served as editor of the Rappahannock News since January.
A native of Long Island, N. Y., McFarlane has been working for newspapers since 1972 when he was sports editor of his school newspaper at Patchogue High School. He continued his newspaper career while at James Madison University, joining the staff of The Breeze, the campus semiweekly newspaper. He joined the staff as a sportswriter in 1975 and was named sports editor a year later.
