Thursday, August 22, will be fee day. Fees may be paid and students may pick up their schedules from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The first day of school will be Monday, August 26, and classes will be dismissed at 2 p.m.
RCES
Rappahannock County Elementary School will also begin classes on Monday, August 26. Book rental fees will be collected and textbooks issued at the elementary school on August 22 (2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.). The fees are the same as last year, $22 for grades K3 and $32 for grades 4-7. Reading workbooks, when needed, are charged for separately. The teachers will notify parents of the amount when appropriate.
Kindergarten students will be given name tags by their teachers on fee day. These will include the teacher’s name, the room number, the student’s name and the schoql bus number. Students should wear these to school the first few days. If parents are unable to come to school on fee day, they are requested to pin a name tag containing the above information to their child’s clothing the first day of
school. Any parent who does not know the number of the school bus may get this information by calling the school bus shop at 987-8591.
Parents are stongly urged to send their children to school on the school bus the first day. Teachers, aides, parent volunteers and administrators will be on duty to get them safely from the bus to the correct classroom. Past experience has shown that children coming on the bus adjust more quickly than those coming with a parent. It also gives them more confidence about going home on the bus. Any parents who drive their children to school on the first day of attendance should make sure that the teacher has the correct number of the bus the child is to ride in the afternoon or is aware of transportation arrangements if the child is not to ride the bus.
Due to the extremely heavy work load at the beginning of the school year, no new students will be registered on fee day, on Friday, August 23, or on Monday, August 26. Students may be registered prior to and after these dates. Students who have not been properly registered by a parent or guardian should not be sent to school. When they come to register, new students should bring a copy of their birth certificate, physical examination and immunization record. The latter must be complete. Forms for the physical examination are available in the school office. Further information may be obtained by calling the elementary school at 987-8259.
