When asked about the mixed re. action tQ,i’ae,.proposals. Gov. Babies replied: “Two w’eeks away from the special session and the topic is being increasingly discussed, criticized, debated. And my view about all of that is rather philosophical. Disagreement, debate are part of human nature.
“It’s clearly an integral part of the legislative process, and I would be worried if they were’t talking because I wouldn’t know what their concerns were and how to deal with them.”
The governor added he is satisfied with the commission’s work, given its diverse makeup — four former governors, senior lawmakers, businessmen and citizens.
They “came together,” Gov. Baliles explained, “looked at the problem and confirmed our worst fears — that the traffic problems in this state were of such a proportion as to threaten to choke the commerce ot the commonwealth.”
