The Foothills Travel Association of Virginia, an organization of local businesses working to promote tourism in Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, Orange and Fauquier counties, will get no financial support from the Rappahannock Supervisors.
Lorraine Robson asked the board for a $400 contribution to help pay for brochures that the Association is having printed. The brochures, which feature a map showing tourist attractions, will be placed in the rest areas on interstate highways and mailed by the state in its packages of information on Virginia.
“We’re not looking for population growth in Rappahannock County,” Mrs. Robson told the board. “We’re looking for tourists who will pass through, leave their dollars and continue on their merry way,” she said, adding that all county residents and businesses will benefit from the money tourists spend here.
The brochure will tout Rappahannock and the surrounding counties as being “for all seasons” with something to offer year round. “We’re planning lots of things to bring tourists here in the winter months,” said Mrs. Robson, who operates a bed-andbreakfast business in Slate Mills and serves on the Association’s board.
