On one occasion at Fort Henry two young Canadian girls approached William and Darrell and, wouldn’t you know it, started talking in French. Virginians through and through the lads naturally agreed to what they were saying, whatever they said. Wide eyed, it was time to head north.
Only by taking teenagers deep — DEEP into the Canadian wilderness does one discover they are alert, bright, dedicated and can’t read maps. Miles from the border of Quebec, a French-Canadian girl offered assistance at an out of the way station. Smiling when hearing where the three thought they were, she unfolded 150 miles of map showing the true locality. With the American spirit of “We can do it,” the three used their situation to an advantage and looked for wildlife.
