“Isn’t there a law prohibiting leaving unexploded dynamite?” asked Mr. Campbell.
“I sure hope so!” Supervisor Miller said. With the quarry closed at least 10 years, “it should be up to Culpeper Stone (which rented the site and operated the quarry) to get it out,” Mr. Campbell continued. “But I don’t see how dynamite that’s been lying there 10 years or more is gonna create any problems,” added the quarry’s nearest neighbor.
“Someone should contact Culpeper Stone and ask then if they left dynamite there . . . Maybe we should get the quarry inspected,” Mr. Miller suggested.
“Why not appoint the most expendable member of the board to do down there and make an inspection?” asked Robert Eastham.
“Do you want to volunteer for that committee, Bob?” Supervisor Nelson Lane asked the former School Board member and gadfly to the Board of Supervisors.
Question for experts
“We’re going to ask Culpeper Stone and they’re going to say no,” insisted Mrs. Ralph. “Who’s going to prove it? Who’s going to go in there and check? Do we have an expert around?”
