basic training
Airman Larry W. Sisk, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Sisk of Sperryville, has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
During the six weeks of training the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air ' Force.
He is a 1983 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, Sperryville.

Navy Lt. William C. Nichols, son of Paul A. and Charlotte G. Nichols of Flint Hill, participated in the first three-submarine surfacing at the North Pole aboard the attack submarine USS Archerfish, homeported in Groton, Conn.
The mission of the submarine was to collect scientific data and test submarine force readiness under arctic conditions without logistics base support.
A 1978 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, Washington and a 1982 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Lt. Nichols joined the Navy in June 1982.

Army Private 1st Class Gregory R. Pivarnik, son of William D. and Barbara A. Pivarnik of Huntly, has completed the station technical controller course at the U.S. Army Signal School, Fort Gordon, Ga.
The course provides instruction for the soldier to maintain, supervise and coordinate the maintenance of quality and continuity of communications.
He is a 1981 graduate of Indian River High School, Chesapeake.
