John Thompson
John Yates Thompson, 55, of Winter Park, Fla., died Nov. 9 in a Florida nursing home.
A native of Washington, D. C., he was the son of the late Joseph Millard and Irene Swindler Thompson. He was raised at Sperryville by his grandparents the late John H. and Arminta B. Swindler.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Barbara S. Koontz of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. Joyce L. Bodjack of Winter Park, Fla., two brothers, Paul A. Thompson of Falls Church and Albert C. Thompson of Harrisonburg, a sister Mrs. Thomas R. (Dorothy) Taylor of Sperryville, two nephews and two nieces.
A graveside service was conducted Nov. 13 at Washington Masonic Cemetery by Rev. Ernest Cornwell.
James R. Johnson
James R. Johnson, 76, of Gates Road, a retired salesman, died Oct. 31 in a Franklin hospital.
Mr. Johnson, a native of Nansemond County, was retired employee of BreyeFs Ice Cream. He was a member of South Quay Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Civilla Wieland Johnson, two sons, James R. Johnson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Wieland Charles Johnson of Woodville, a brother Jesse V. Johnson of North Carolina, and five grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Nov. 2 in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Clyde R. Alderman.
