Treasurer Brad Fisher reported on the Water Authority’s continuing battle with leakage in the town’s antiquated system. The loss is running at 25 percent, Mr. Fisher reported. The water authority spent $1700 in the last month on maintenance, he said, almost all of which went to repair leaks. Mr. Fisher added that the costs to the town per 3000 gallons of water totals $7.92 ($3.42 for production, $4.50 for maintenance) while the town charges only $6 for the same amount used. “In the past two months, that has added up to a $400 deficit,” he said. “We need to average the costs of production and . maintenance and raise the charge to . at least cover the costs.” “Won’t that mean a drastic in1 crease in community rates?” asked ! In other business, the council: • Hired Cindy Mahan as its recording secretary, relieving Dorothy Clater of that responsibility. • Took under advisement a request from Zoning Administrator John McCarthy to raise the fees for applications for rezoning and subdivision. Mr. McCarthy had told the council that the $50 fee is not enough to cover the costs. Council requested Mr. Reynolds to meet with Mr. McCarthy and revise the fee schedule to cover costs and legal fees. • Granted Doug Baumgardner’s request to remove the playground equipment from the back of his lot on Main Street. It had once belonged to the town, Mr. Baumgardner advised the council, but said that he would like to use it if the town laid no claim to it. • Served notice that it intends to adopt a four-percent restaurant tax.
