(picnic tables are included). Of course, in the winter, outside dining ceases. This makes the other three available spaces more crowded than usual. Since trays are not allowed outside the cafeteria, most students do not buy lunch in order to avoid the crowds.
The gym at RCHS was also mentioned and if Mr. Eastham has ever been to a basketball game, he has noticed the players running into the mats at the end of the court due to lack of space. At many of the games sitting with friends and family becomes a challenge.
Graduation was moved from evening to morning due to an inadequate amount of space. The gym was so crowded that the heat became stifling very quickly. I was one graduate who was tom between which relatives would receive my four tickets which allowed them to sit in chairs. After my parents, the decision was difficult. Whoever did not receive a ticket had to get to the high school 30 to 45 minutes early to assure seats - not good seats, just somewhere to sit. I felt sorry for the relatives who were left standing by the bleachers at the last graduation.
The locker rooms at Rappahannock have two bathrooms which whole teams have to share. The gym classes, during school hours, are faced with the same problem. The hallway bathrooms have a total of four stalls each. This fcaufces a lot of waiting between classes and late students.
The expected increase in enrollment should not be the main deciding factor. The school is obviously too small for the existing students. How many more do we need to meet the quota set in order to begin expansion? The students are suffering because they live in a small county. This should be an advantage. Residents should be willing to pay for a better education for the small number of students they do have.
It is said “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.” On account of a few members of the community’s lack of information, the students of RCHS continue to suffer.
