Richard Latham, supervisor from Jackson District, died suddenly this Wednesday in Warren Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Latham had entered the hospital on Monday to undergo tests and underwent surgery the following day.
A native of Rappahannock County and lifelong resident of Amissville, Mr. Latham was a farmer. He was a member of the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors for 15 years, serving as its chairman for four years. He also served as chairman of the county’s Welfare Board, member of the ASCS County Committee and member of the Trustee Electoral Board formerly responsible for appointments to the county’s School Board. He was Rappahannock’s representative on the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission and a director of the Rappahannock Home Mutual Fire Insurance Company.
J. Newbill Miller, who served twice with Mr. Latham on the board of supervisors, said, “Dick was a friend of mine; our association goes back 20 years or more. He was an excellent supervisor. He was the type of person that the more you were around him, the more you respected him. He got things done in a quiet way -- without a lot of fanfare"
