_ Although it is an ancient pagan mid-winter tradition to decorate homes with evergreens and dress up trees with ornaments, the identification of these preparations with the Christian Yuletide has become established over many centuries.
At the beginning of the eighth century, St. Boniface received authorization from Pope Gregory II to preach the gospel to all the tribes of Germany. His success there led to the baptizing of multitudes and changing idolatrous temples to churches.
