January Extension conferences
The Virginia Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show will be held Jan. 21-23 at Virginia Beach Pavilion Convention Center and on Jan. 20-21 the Virginia Pork Industry Conference will convene at the Omni Hotel, Charlottesville. Stop smoking clinic
For those whose New Year’s resolution is to stop smoking, the American Lung Association of Northern Virginia is conducting a Stop Smoking Clinic in January.
Featuring films, group discussion and instruction in relaxation and self-control techniques, the clinic will be held on the evenings of Jan. 6, 8, 12 and 14 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital, 601 S. Carlin Springs Road, Arlington. A registration fee of $15 is required, which will be refunded to those participants who attend all four sessions. To assure a space in the clinic, register no later than Jan. 2 by calling 703-591-4131.
Dance at Amissville
The band Royal Toq«s will play for a dance sponsored by the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department Saturday, Dec. 20, from 9 p.m. to 1 a. m. Proper dress is required and persons attending must be 21 years of age. For reservations or additional information call 937-4357.
RCHS holds alumni festivities
On Saturday, Dec. 20, RCHS alumni, their families and friends are invited for an afternoon and evening of activities. Things will get started with an organizational meeting for an Alumni Association at 5 p.m. in the gym. Officers may be elected at that time. Then at 6 p.m. there will be a potluck covered dish dinner in the cafeteria. The school will provide iced tea, plates and utensils for the dinner.
Alumni ball games will start at 7 p.m. with even year lady grads taking on odd year grads. Fifteen ladies have registered for this game but more even year ladies are needed.
At 8 p.m. former varsity men players will have a game. Even year grads led by player-coach Gary Leake will take on odd year grads led by player-coach Bobby Settle. The first 30 former varsity players to register with the school will play.
Any additional varsity players plus non-varsity players will play in a second men’s game at 9 p.m. Practice for all alumni will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 19, after the home boys’ basketball game with Brentsville.
