Order trees now
from foresters
The Division of Forestry is now accepting orders for tree seedlings. Nine species of trees and wildlife shrubs are available this year, which i can be planted for a wide variety of ■ ] purposes such as timber production, i erosion control, Christmas trees and ' improvement of wildlife habitat.
Prices are reasonable, since the Division of Forestry sells the trees at its cost of production. Prices range from $24 per 1000 loblolly pine seedlings to $70 for 1000 Norway spruce seedlings. The only hardwood species offered this year is black locust. The floods last November destroyed the black walnut and sawtooth oak.
This year as few as 50 seedlings of any species may be ordered.
the Division of Forestry will be glad to examine planting sites. During the examination, the foresters will offer suggestions as to recommended species, seedling spacing, preparing the planting site and the best planting method. Available cost-share programs are also discussed. This examination is done at no charge to the landowner.
Some of the species available are iin limited supply and are sold out within a month or two after ordering begins. Therefore, the Division urges landowners to order as early as possible.
