Mr. Hobson agreed. “Education is not just for the users. It could also be helpful for those who might come into contact with them - people who could make a difference. ”

Magistrate Eldred also expressed concern that people are not aware of the services available in the county.

“A lot of people are woefully ignorant of a whole lot of stuff,” Mr. Hobson said. “I’m amazed at how people can live with alcoholism and never realize that there’s a problem.”

Following the discussion, the group decided that its members would return to their community organizations and solicit input about the needs in the county. A tentative decision was made to designate one week next year as a time for an intensive cofnmunity education effort. No date has been set for the program.

An executive committee met this week to further define the focus of the effort. The task force scheduled a second meeting for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Trinity Church in. Wa»hingt©n for further discussion. Mr. Nettles said that any interested members of the community, whether representing groups or just as individuals, are encouraged to attend the meeting.
