In a short session last week, the Rappahannock Planning Commission recommended approval of a special exception to Sandra Brown for a sign directing tourists and passers-by to the shops on Sperryville’s Main Street.
The 32-square-foot off-site sign would face out toward Route 211 and would meet the zoning ordinance regulations, which allow two square feet of sign for every one foot of road frontage. Under that standard, Mrs. Brown, who has a green• » house and" craft shop' near the cornier of Main Street and Route 211, is allowed up to 48 square feet of sign, zoning administrator John McCarthy noted.
“The traffic coming from 211 and the Skyline Drive cannot see Main Street and so we miss a lot of business,” Mrs. Brown told the planners.
