can be a bit difficult. Why not make a vegetable Christmas tree? It’s quite easy to make and a conversation piece.

The tree is created by covering a ■Styrofoam cone with curly letftice, jescarole, or endive. Fasten to cone .with pieces of toothpicks. Cherry tomatoes create the effect of roping. -Cauliflower, broccoli, radish roses, zucchini, and yellow squash serve as ornaments. Extra veggies may be placed on a tray around the tree for guests to nibble. A dip may be served in a bowl near the centerpiece.

Cottage Cheese Dip

2 cups cottage cheese

2 to 3 tablespoons milk or sour cream

1/4 teaspoon grated onion

2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

1/4 teaspoon salt j; Sieve or mash cottage cheese. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Yield: 2 cups basic dip.

Variations:

Clam Dip - To 2 cups basic dip add 1 (7V2-ounce) can of well-drained minced clams. Add 2 to 3 teaspoons clam juice for good dipping consistency. Garnish with strips of pimiento.

Blue Cheese Dip - To 2 cups basic dip add 2 ounces crumbled blue cheese. Mix well with electric mixer, g if possible. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley.

Herring Dip - To 2 cups basic dip add 1/4 cup finely chopped pickled herring (mix in blender until . smooth). Garnish with a dash of paprika.

Smoky Cheese Dip - To 2 cups basic dip add 4 ounces shredded smoky-flavored processed cheese .food. Beat with an electric mixer or in blender. Garlic-flavored proc. essed cheese food may also be used.
