A Pinch of This wasn’t written for those on low-fat, low-cholesterol and low-salt diets but it will give them interesting new ideas.
For those who like their cookbooks historical, Mrs. Kilpatrick offers a glimpse of President and Mrs. ;Reagan, who flew in by helicopter to White Walnut Hill for lunch in 1981. If you think you might want the honor of entertaining the president, better read what goes on: “We had three weeks to put together the guest list, send the invitations, plan a menu, manicure the grounds, clean the rugs and draperies, check the dinens, and polish the silver. We had agreed there would be only twenty for the luncheon - a number I could handle easily.
“One week before the party, four young men from the Anny Signal ■ Corps arrived in a large truck. They took over the kitchen of our guest house and turned it into headquarters for a worldwide communications system. They ran wires here and .there. They erected antennae. They installed extra telephones in the main house, including a telephone for Mrs. Reagan. We were still thinking in terms of lunch for twenty. „ “It was then that I was told there would be two helicopters. The second would hold ten aides who always accompanied the President. They Would need to be fed. In addition, at least one platoon would show up from the White House press corps. I began to count: We are now feeding seventy.”
