Needy families around Northern Virginia will receive an added boost this holiday season from the faculty f and staff and students of Northern Virginia Community College with a college-wide food drive which will continue until Dec. 11. The general public is also invited to contribute canned goods and packaged items. Collection bins will be located on the campuses in Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun County and Woodbridge.
“You are encouraged to pick up an extra can or two at the grocery store and drop it in one of the collection boxes on a NOVA campus,” said Dr. Richard J. Ernst, president of NOVA. “Your generosity could help to feed hundreds of local families.” 1 This year, the NVCC Educational Foundation, the student activities offices at each campus and chapters from the educational honorary, Phi Theta Kappa, are responsible for the college-wide food drive at NOVA. > Canned or packaged goods that afe suggested for giving include canned meats such as tuna and ham, packaged dry milk, canned vegetables of all types, canned fruit, packaged stuffing mixes, packaged instant mashed potatoes, canned evaporated milk, candies and nuts, dessert mixes, and peanut butter and jelly.

Christmas concert
The Culpeper-Piedmont Choral Society’s Annual Christmas Candlelight Concert will be presented on three occasions this season. On Sunday, Dec 6, 3 p.m. and on Friday, Dec 11 at 8 p.m. it will be held at the Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 S. West St. On Sunday, Dec 13, 4:30 p.m., it will be performed at Grace Episcopal Church in The Plains.
The spirit of Christmases past afld present will be captured in the candlelight processionals and singing of the 54-voice chorus with instrumentalists and soloists. Organist/pianist for the choral society is J.R. Cannaday. Music Director Lois Shanks has selected works of many centuries and styles, which include composers such as Dvorak, J.S. Bach, Bruckner, Randall Thompson, Rutter and Handel, with tfcro selections from the Messiah.
There will also be some mirth and merriment with lighter songs by the professor who calls himseUf P.D.Q. Bach. The audience will be invited to sing several carols as well.

, Denise Hershkowitz Horton Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Washington, D.C. and Rappahannock County, was an invited speaker at the seventh annual Common Boundary Conference on Psychotherapy apd Spirituality, held Nov. 19-21 at the Omni Sheraton in Washington, D.C. * The theme of the 1987 Conference was “Reawakening the Inner Child.” Dr. Horton’s presentation was entitled “Object Relations Theory in Early Childhood and the Creative Unconscious.”
A graduate of Harvard University and George Washington University, Dr. Horton is on the adjunct clinical faculty of Georgetown University. She makes her home in Washington, Va.
