in accidents

Charges have been filed in two. ;, accidents which occured outside , Sperryville on Sunday, Nov. 1,. according to Trooper C. A. Moore.

Seven people were injured in the , • first accident, which happened just t - after 5 p.m. on Rt. 211 about 3Vk v. miles west of Sperryville. Trooper,. . Moore said that a 1971 Buick station wagon was eastbound down the., mountain in a line of traffic. It was struck head-on by a 1987 Ford pick-vup truck driven by Thomas Parcell / *, of Stanley.

Trooper Moore said that Mr. '*.■ - Parcell was westbound up the moun--. tain at an unsafe rate of speed and lost control of the truck. It crossed a ’’ . double yellow line and hit the Buick, .’ ■■ which was driven by Anthony Rear-' * don of Waldorf, Md. Mr. Parcell has been charged with reckless driving. .' ■

The accident tied up traffic on Rt. 211 as rescue units from Sperryville, Washington, Flint Hill and Amissville extricated victims from the cars. A total of seven people” * were transported to hospitals, in-^ eluding Mr. Parcell, who was trans-;' ferred to University of Virginia; Medical Center in Charlottesville with a head injury.

Both vehicles were totaled, Trooper Moore said.

A second accident that evening, .. just after 8 p.m., injured four peopie, Trooper Moore said. Rescue units returning from Culpeper Me- • morial Hospital responded directly to the scene at the intersection of.? 1 Rt. 522 and Rt. 231 just south of . Sperryville. . •

According to Trooper Moore, a ■ 1982 Ford two-door driven by Jef- V frey Jenkins of Washington was ' northbound on Rt. 522 toward Sper-- , ryville. It was struck head-on by a 1987 Ford Escort EXP, driven by- ’ David Dodson of Sperryville. Mr .1 Dodson passed a car turning right" - onto Rt. 231, crossing double yellow1' J lines in the process, Trooper Moore” - said, and struck the Jenkins car.

Mr. Dodson has been charged; with reckless driving.

Mr. Dodson and a passenger in ' his car were taken to CMH, where ’ they were treated for minor injuries - and released. Mr. Jenkins and his ' ! wife Rhonda were taken to Fauquiejtt" Hospital where they were treated and released, Trooper Moore said.

He said that both vehicles in- ’ volved in the accident were totaled.
