And in return, REAP will include meeting the school system’s needs in its priorities by offering (1) classes required for teachers’ recertification, (?) in-service training for teachers and other staff, and (3) advanced placement courses for high school students who want an early start on college-level work.
Between now and the October faculty recruitment meeting, REAP is conducting a survey to assess the needs for and interest in adult education and to determine what local people are willing to contribute. But the contributions the Action Project is looking for are not monetary; instead organizers want information on areas of know-how and knowledge which residents will share, not just as faculty for the new adult education program but as instructors with the Child Care and Learning Center, the public schools, Wakefield School, Rappahannock’s Literacy Volunteers and Lord Fairfax Community College.
REAP has already established general goals:
• Provide training for people reentering or changing fields in the job market.
• Offer introductory college-level credit, which can also serve as advanced placement high school courses.
