Traffic surveys done earlier this summer by the consulting firm show through-traffic makes up just seven percent of the vehicles crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge on Interstate 95; three percent on the American Legion Bridge at Interstate 495; and eight percent on U.S. Route 15 crossing the Potomac River at Point of Rocks. If the bypass is intended to divert cars and trucks with destinations outside the metropolitan area, a western route appears to have a better chance of achieving that aim since BMI’s surveys
