"Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep III should die before I wake. I pray the Lord my soul to take."
In this country it first appeared in editions of The New England Primer about the time of the Revolutionary War. But the earliest record of the prayer is found in a devotional handbook dated 1160 A. D

“If I should live for other days I pray the Lord to guide my ways."
