The Virginia Department of Transportation has opening(s) for Bridge Construction Repair Worker at the Wanenton Residency Office. Applications are available at the Wanenton Highway Residency Office or at the Virginia Employment Commission. Completed applications must be submitted before 5:00 P.M. on September 30, 1988. Duties: Performs heavy manual labor and operates light and medium duty equipment to build, repair, and maintain bridges. Builds and sets forms for bridges and box culverts. Places screeds and finishes concrete to proper texture and grade, and applies curing agents. Replaces deteriorated concrete and/or wooden bridge decks; repairs and replaces guardrails and other deteriorated support structures. Places and ties reinforcing steel for bridge decks, substructures, retaining walls. Cleans and paints steel bridge structures.

Qualifications: Knowledge of maintenance and construction techniques for bridge repair, hand held and power carpentry tools and their uses and concrete finishing techniques. Skill in rough and finished carpentry techniques and concrete finishing techniques; painting; and the use of a cutting torch. Ability to perform heavy physical labor; work in adverse weather and hazardous working conditions; work in, around and above water; work at heights; operate a variety of light and medium duty equipment; and operate a variety of power and hand tools.
