viewpoints of all of those people who reside and work in the town. We must also be willing to listen to the citizens of Rappahannock County at large because it was decided many years before any of us came along that Washington would be our county seat. We, therefore, have an obligation to plan spaces for housing of county services within the corporate limits of the town.
I am also interested in serving on the Commission because I have made a commitment to be involved with the community in which I reside. I have been a property owner in town for seven years, I run a bed and breakfast business which collects sales tax for the town, I am Chairperson for the Speeding Committee in town, and I attend Town Council meetings fairly regularly. I also expressed an interest in being appointed to the Planning Commission last fall when there was a vacancy.
When the new zoning ordinance for the town was adopted two years ago, my husband and I expressed some very specific concerns, most of which were related to the lack of flexibility of the ordinance in allowing for modest retail businesses and professional services in areas in which they were once allowed by special use permit.
