At the Washington Town Council meeting last week, the appointment of a new commissioner to fill a vacancy on the Washington Planning Commission was discussed. It was decided to delay the appointment of a new commissioner for one month in consideration of Council member Peter Skowronski’s objections that he was not aware that four people had expressed interest in filling the position and he would like to have time to talk with each of them.
I am one of the four people who submitted letters expressing an interest in the position. During the last week, I have heard a few comments to the effect that I want to be on the Planning Commission only to promote and protect my own property interests in town, specifically potential small business interests. This is not an accurate representation of the reasons for my interest in the position. Therefore, I am writing to clarify to town citizens, Council members, and county residents the reasons I would like to serve on the Washington Planning Commission.
I am interested in serving on the Commission because I would like to contribute my ideas and time in establishing short-term and long-term goals and plans for the town. If we are to maintain the charm and quaintness of our town, we must be open to listening to the needs and
