Norman reunion
The Norman family reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Rappahannock County Recreational Park, Rt. 211, Washington. Relatives and friends are urged to attend and bring their favorite dishes and a beverage. Business meeting and awarding of prizes will be held at 1 p.m. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. “See you there,” said a family spokesperson.
Indian visits Trading Post
General Grant and family will visit the Trading Post on Rt. 211, west of Washington on Sunday, Sept. 25 from 11 to 6 p.m.
General, a Cherokee-Sioux Native American, is well known for his knives which have a primitive look with some contemporary work on the handle. His carvings are done in wood, stone or bone.
His wife, Virginia is a Navajo silversmith. She will be demonstrating silver jewelry making.
Their 18-year-old, Ernest Thomas is a Champion Fancy Dancer and their 17-year-old son, Antonio Lorenzo is a Champion Northern Traditional Dancer. Both have won many awards in the U.S. and Canada. The sons will be dressed in full regalia and will be dancing.
The Trading Post offers authentic American Indian arts and crafts. The public is invited.
First Baptist to host picnic
The First Baptist Church will hold a picnic on Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at noon at the Rappahannock Park. Featured will be The Melody Makers, Blood Washed Band, Glory Road Singers and David Clanagan and Free Spirit. Guest speakers will be Rev. Deker Tapscott, Rev. Henry Robinson and Rev. Wendell Grant. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and all are invited to attend.
