The annual report also states that 1988’s patient caseload was a record 36, a 9 percent increase above the previous year. Patients lived 96
percent longer while in hospice care than during 1987. Fourteen patients resided in Culpeper, 11 in Orange, 10 in Madison and one in Rappahannock. Two-thirds were men. The most frequent diagnoses were cancer of the lung, brain, breast and stomach. Patient ages ranged from 40 to 89. Half of the patients were Baptists.
