The Rappahannock Lions Club is looking for musically-talented youths to compete in its annual Bland Music Contest. The event, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 26, gives young musicians an opportunity to perform, and members of the community a chance to listen to and appreciate their music. And, prizes of $100, $50 and $25 savings bonds are awarded to the top contestants in the instrumental and voice categories. First-place winners also advance to regional, state and national competitions, where additional cash awards and scholarships are presented. Interested students should contact their music teacher, Lion Mike Mahoney (675-3446) or any member of the Rappahannock Lions Club.
Youth bake sale

The Youth Group of the Sperry ville United Methodist Church will have a bake sale on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Sperryville Comer Store, beginning at 10 a.m. Baked goods from the church group will be greatly) appreciated.
Preschool film program

Clothing sale at Wakefield
A children’s clothing sale will be held at Wakefield School on Route 522, Huntly on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sizes range from infant to size 12 for boys and girls.
Brand names including Buster Brown, Oops!, L’Azur and Rocking Horse will be offered at 40 percent off retail. Proceeds will benefit the senior class of Wakefield. For additional information contact Margaret Lee at 635-8111.
Western Native American art
The Middle Street Gallery is hosting a slide presentation by Barbara Stinson of “The Art of the Western Native American" at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17 at the Gay Street Theater. Barbara Stinson has been collecting and traveling in the West for 50 years. Following the slide presentation, a reception and opening of her show which will run through Feb. 26 will be held at the Middle Street Gallery. A donation of $2 is requested. Hospice offers training
Hospice of the Rapidan’s Volunteer Training Sessions will be held the evenings of Thursday, April 6, and Monday, April 10, and all day Saturday, April 8. Volunteers provide a “special kind of caring” by assisting with transportation, emotional support, patient advocacy and bereavement counseling. Barbecue dinner at RCES
A barbecue dinner to benefit the Rappahannock County Elementary School, its PTA, and the seventh-grade class trip to Williamsburg will be held at the school on Saturday, March 25, from 3-8 p.m. Tickets for the $5 dinner, which will include barbecue, cole slaw, french fries and pie, and are available from all fifth-, sixth- and seventh-grade students, and at the door. “To-go” dinners will also be serv ed.
