The movie The Unbearable Lightness of Being will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The movie stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Juliette Binoche. Phil Kaufman’s first film since The Right Stuff begins as a charming, subtle, modern romantic comedy, set against the “Prague Spring,” of Czechoslovakia’s 1968 liberalization of communist policies. Lewis stars as a ruthlessly uncommitted Prague playboy brain-surgeon who spends his off-hours prowling city and countryside. Binoche portrays Tereza, the new girl in Lewis’s life who begins to shake his faith in the virtues of non-obligation. Rex Reed calls this film “A film of great scope and humanity ...” Gene Shalit calls it “ ... an erotic film, it is a political film and it is a dramatic film. I loved every minute of it.” The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Historical Society meeting
The Rappahannock County Historical Society will hold its quarterly business meeting Friday, March 10 at 7:30 at the Rappahannock County courthouse. There will be election of officers, and an interest ing program is planned for the evening.
