'Locals' star
in concert
A concert featuring several of our finest and most enjoyable local musicians will be presented at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday, March 18 when Tom Espinola and Lorraine Duisit join Fredya Epstein, Ralph Gordon, Seth Austin and Fred Boyce.
“Local, in this case, doesn't mean of only limited interest or appeal," according to a spokesman for RAAC, which is sponsoring the concert. “These musicians have chosen to live in the Blue Ridge foothills, but all have made a name for themselves in classical, folk, traditional, blues and new-age music.”
Geoffrey Hines, music critic for The Washington Post, called their music “chamber-folk" after listening to Tom and Lorraine’s “Feather River” album.
This term, Mr. Hines wrote, “suggests both the informal rural character of the music as well as its high technical standards and thoughtful architecture.”
Joining this Rappahannock couple will be Fredya Epstein and Ralph Gordon, who, like Lorraine, are former members of Trapezoid. “Fredya is bringing along Seth Austin and Ralph Boyce, who promise to add yet another dimension to an already dazzling array of instruments for the concert,” the spokesman said.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert are $7.50 in advance, $9 at the door, with a discounted price of $6 for RAAC members on advance tickets purchased by mail or from Mountainside Market in Washington.
