The grueling test entailed not only finishing first but also grabbing a bag of 50 silver dollars set on top of a barrel.
Suzie the mule, a quarter horse cross ridden by Sammy Williams of Warrenton, crossed the wire first. Sammy, decked out in full hunting regalia, grabbed the bag of money first but then dropped it in the mud.
Scott Edwards on Redbud, several lengths behind, screeched to a halt at the barrel, reached down from his 13-hand mule and secured the goods, almost landing on his head.
