Dickey Ridge Picnic area, Elkwallow Picnic area, and the woods along the roadway on both sides of Skyline Drive will be treated with Dimilin.
Gypsy moth control activities associated with meeting the AIPM objectives include:
Pinnacles Picnic area (Dimilin), Skyland (Bt), Big Meadows (Bt), Skyline Drive (Dimilin), and Mathew Arm Campground (Gypcheck).
Other IPM activities used to slow the artificial spread of gypsy moth life stages may also be implemented if conditions warrant. These may include the inspection of recreation vehicles lekving campgrounds, limiting the length of stay in campgrounds to two or three days, and increased efforts to enhance visitor and public awareness of the gypsy moth issue.
The National Environmental Policy Act requires a 30-day public notification and response period for this type of activity. Draft environmental assessments are available for review at Shenandoah National Park Headquarters.
