Pound animals
Pet owners and medical researchers faced off this session over the issue of using pound animals for medical research. Under a compromise bill agreed upon by the assembly, animals found with a collar, tattoo or identifying tag will be spared from experimental research. Other animals will be held an extra five days in order for pet owners to claim them.
No smoking
Legislation that would restrict smoking in public places fizzled early in the session this year. Counter legislation,' introduced by Sen. Virgil H. Goode Jr., D-20th District, banning local governments from regulating smoking was successful.
AIDS
