To the editor:
There is an organization in Rappahannock County about which many people know little.
It is called the Rappahannock Loan Closet for Convalescent Aids. We are a small group of people dedicated to providing aids such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers, bedside commodes, crutches, etc. to anyone in the county. There is never a charge or time limit set for any equipment, only a request that we be notified when its use is no longer needed, and the item be returned in good condition.
We have been operating with a minimal staff but have managed to respond to every call. During the past several months we have loaned hospital beds six times, our wheelchairs are on constant call, all six of our bedside commodes are in use, as are our folding walkers, although we have standard ones on hand.
Our inventory is growing slowly but big budget items such as hospital beds and wheelchairs are beyond our present budget. We would like to be able to purchase new convalescent
