Even though the Panthers were more disciplined on offense, they still had a lot of trouble with the Bisons’ gambling defense.
Buffalo Gap was repeatedly stepping in front of well-thrown Panther passes and scoring the transition basket. With 30 seconds left in the half the Bisons converted two straight steals into four points and cut the lead to 32-28 at the intermission.
The tenacious Bison defense continued to force Panther miscues in the second half, and after a 7-0 run, Buffalo Gap led 35-34. The Bison also employed a diamond-and-one defense against Panther ace, Eric Dunn. This ploy effectively stifled the senior leader in the second half, limiting him to five points before his game-winning heroics. Dunn had 15 points in the first half to force the Bisons’ change in defense.
