The Bluemont Concert Series will present “An Evening of Old Songs” on Saturday, Aug. 19 on the lawn of the Warren Green in downtown Warrenton. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. The requested donation is $2 per person. All are welcome.
This concert will present three remarkable singers and musicians sharing from their individual repertoires of old songs. We decided to define “old songs” by saying we hoped the evening would produce a variety of songs and stories, some familiar, perhaps some to sing along. Old Songs might be gospel songs, songs of Virginia's Carter Family, Stephen Foster, John Lennon or Mozart, according to a Bluemont spokesman.
Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer from Takoma Park, Maryland are wonderful singers and musicians. Their performances draw’ on the richness of folk and country musical tradition while retaining an active interest in relevant issues of our world today. Cathy and Marcy’s exquisite harmony singing and sparkling instrumental work on banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin and hammer dulcimer have won acclaim from audiences world wide as well as from the Washington Post, Performance Magazine, CBS and NPR Radio.
